What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be an intimidating experience, but at Shively Baptist church, we want you to feel at home the first time you walk through our doors. We believe that it is OUR responsibility to “clear the way” for you to come to church. We want you to be able to experience the great music, encouraging messages, friendly people, and enjoyable atmosphere that are a part of Shively. Many people have the same questions the first time they visit a church: How do I get there? … What Should I wear? … What’s available for my kids? … What is the worship service like? Here is a quick look at what you can expect during your first visit to Shively.
How Do I Get There?
Shively Baptist Church is located at 1599 Sadie Lane, Louisville, KY, 40216. We are located two blocks east of Dixie Highway and the Watterson Expressway. If you need further directions, please feel free to call our church office at (502) 367-9155.
What Shoud I Wear?
We are more concerned with meeting your real life needs than with what you wear. On any given Sunday you will likely find some members wearing a suit and tie or a dress, some wearing polo’s and Khaki’s, and some wearing t-shirt’s and jeans. So, dress casually and you’ll fit right in.
What’s Available for My Kids?
We at Shively know that as a parent, you are concerned for the safety of your children. We also know that your children are looking for a FUN place to learn - we’ve invested a lot of resources to make sure that both of these goals are reached. Childcare is provided at each worship service and emergency pagers will be provided you should our childcare staff need to reach you quickly. Shively offers a variety of ways for your children to learn about Jesus in an exciting and fun environment. If you have specific questions regarding our childcare program, please contact the church office at (502) 367-9155 and a staff member will be happy to assist you.
What’s the Worship Service Like?
At Shively Baptist church, we offer several different opportunities for public worship. On Sunday mornings, at 8:30 & 11:00 AM, we meet for our main weekly services. These services offer a blend of contemporary and traditional music as well as a message from our pastor that is relevant to everyday life. At Shively, we do not equate any particular musical style with worship. Rather, we seek to worship God is Spirit and in Truth, recognizing the value of diversity in our worship.
On Sunday evenings at 6:00 PM, we meet in the sanctuary for a more informal time of singing and teaching. In this service we sing the classic hymns and our Senior Adult Ministry choir leads the worship.
On Wednesday evenings, we meet in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 for a time of prayer and teaching. This is an informal service where a cup of coffee is as common as a hymnal.
We invite you to join us for worship this week!
