Deacon Ministry
Deacons, according to the New Testament, are those men set apart by a local congregation to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the church (Acts 6:1-6). The Deacons at Shively Baptist Church are committed to this calling to be active servants, freeing up the leaders for prayer and the ministry of the Word.
So what exactly do our deacons do? How do they help meet the everyday needs of our church? On any given day you are likely to find a deacon helping one of our homebound members with a plumbing problem, visiting members in the hospital, praying with a widow, sharing the good news of new life in Christ with a stranger, or helping a family make it through a difficult financial period. These are just some of the many ministries that our Deacons perform.
